To See Contents of a File

Use Type command to see contents of a file created in DOS.

Command          :                 Type
Type                 :                 Internal Command
Syntax              :                 Type <File name> <Enter>

Remember the contents of files like Autoexec.bat and config.sys created in DOS can only be seen using this command but contents of any other program files or documents can be seen.
Give name of file after the type command whose contents you want to see and press enter. For example, if you want to see contents of Autoexec.bat file, then give following command:
type autoexec.bat <enter>
As a result, contents of the file will be seen on the screen.

Viewing Contents of File in Other Drive

If you want to see contents of other drive besides the drive in which you are working, then write drive name and file you want to see.
Suppose you are working in C Drive and now want to see contents of example.txt in Drive D, then give the following command:
type D:\example.txt <enter>
As a result, contents of that file will appear on screen.

Printing a File

Print command is used to print contents of any file on paper.

Command          :                 Print
Type                 :                 Internal Command
Syntax              :                 Print <File name> <Enter>

Print command is used only when contents of Dos files are required to be printed on paper. For example if you want to print content of File EXAMPLE.BAT, then following will be the command: print examle.bat<enter>

As a result contents of that file will get printed on paper. Remember one blank space is must between PRINT command and File name.

Printing a File of Other Drive

If you want ant to print the DOS file from the non-working drive then first give path of the file alongwith command and then give name of that file. For example , if you are working in C Drive and want to take print of example.bat file stored in E Drive following will be the command:
Print e:\example.bat <enter>
Accordingly, the contents of example.bat file in E Drive will get printed on the paper.
